We're talking to you about his Winery
Tasting Dominique Belluard's Savoy wines over the last few years, we have all felt a profound change in the tastings: more precision, more vibrancy, more energy and more life in the wines. The minerality has found its full meaning. Whether in the Perles (a Gringet-based effervescent) or in the grand cuvée, Le Feu... it's all about the "cause" in there! Created in 1947, Winery BELLUARD covers 10 hectares in the small commune of Ayse, located in the heart of the Arve Valley, between Geneva and Chamonix Mont-Blanc (Haute-Savoie). Dominique Belluard runs one of the oldest vineyards in the Alps where an endemic Grape variety "le Gringet", unique in the world, still exists! Currently, only 22 hectares remain in production, of which only 10 are worked... at Winery Belluard. The rest is spread over a dozen small producers. The BELLUARD family's land was once covered with fruit trees. Dominique's parents worked their orchards until the 1980s. After studying oenology in Beaune, Dominique Belluard took over in 1988 and is now in charge of the production and vinification. "The permanent observation and analysis of the vineyard lead us to a protection and care of the plants by integrating all the natural elements around us, always looking for a balance between the plant, animal and mineral world to the detriment of chemical pesticides. |
Today, for the greatest typicity of our wines, the main preoccupation of Winery is to cultivate the vine in the greatest respect of the soils and the traditions of elaboration ". This explains the conversion to bio-dynamic agriculture in 2001 of Winery Belluard. Why did this happen? Dominique answers us: "It is the only answer to the laws of -Living-" and to explain: "After several years of chemical cultivation, even "reasoned", we realize that something is not working. You create imbalances, because our whole environment only works on the laws of the -Living". The earth, where the roots of plants plunge, is not only a support for plants, but a place of life and exchange between the Vegetal (roots, fungi, yeasts...), Animal (insects, earthworms, bacteria...) and Mineral (rocks, silts, clays...) worlds.". We met Dominique Belluard for the first time in 2003, with Patrick Meyer (Winery Julien Meyer, Alsace). The influence of the latter is no doubt not foreign to all this. PS: Dominique unfortunately left us in the spring of 2021. And we are very sad about it. |
