We're talking to you about his Winery
Henri and Valentin Bruneau, from Winery des Frères, offer with their first vintage (2020) healthy and precise wines in the Chinon appellation.
As you can see, Henri and Valentin are brothers. After spending their youth in the Chinon region, they both turned to office jobs. But after a few years behind the computer, both of them were fed up. A few years apart, they enrolled in a BTS (vocational training certificate) in viticulture and wine-making and had many experiences with different winemakers. Henry finished his training with Patrick Corbineau (near Saumur) whom he named as his mentor. Valentin, on the other hand, spent time with the Métras (in Beaujolais), Philippe Chigard (Tours) and Bernard Baudry (Chinon). Not bad either! After half a dozen years of experience each, it's the big jump. The two brothers agreed and decided to start their own family business at Winery . The objective: to offer healthy and precise wines from beautiful terroirs. The region or to establish themselves? It doesn't matter to them, as long as they find beautiful plots! The search began in earnest in 2017. The Bruneau brothers made a series of visits and phone calls. They were not idle in their search and did not want to buy by default. After 2 years, they are back home! Indeed, they found an 11-hectare plot at Winery in the region where they grew up, in Beaumont-en-Véron, in the Chinon appellation. 10 hectares of red wine (Cabernet Franc) and 1 hectare of white wine (Chenin) divided into several parcels, on 6 different terroirs. The vines are on average 40/45 years old and are located on hillsides and plateaus. The vast majority of the vines come from massal selection. |
Henri and Valentin run the vineyard organically (it is currently in conversion) and use only a little sulfur and copper for treatment. In order to keep the soil alive and aerated, the Bruneau's try to use the tractor only once a year and prefer to use the quad for treatments (when necessary). At Winery des Frères, the harvest is of course manual and starts early (during the day), as maturity is essential. The goal is to keep the grapes fresh when they arrive at the winery. After spending several hours with them, one sentence comes to mind: "Work always pays off". The work accomplished by our two companions in so little time is considerable and shows us that the two nice brothers have a good head on their shoulders. They know what they want and where they are going. Their first vintage seems set to be great. The wines tasted all have their own identity and surprise by their elegance and freshness. At Petites Caves we offer you the first two bottled wines: "le Pérou" and "les Pucelles". It is up to you to make your own opinion. We are quite serene. |
