We're telling you about their Winery
It is a small Winery on a human scale (less than 2 hectares), located on the Condrieu side. The Clos de la Bonnette, located on the Bonnette coast (valley of the same name) is a rich and protected ecosystem. The choice of Bio on important slopes, small terraces, imposes to adapt. The passage of the horse is unfortunately not conceivable. Henri Montabonnet is the right man for the situation, he adapts mechanical tools such as the caterpillar to facilitate the aeration of the soil. During the hot summer months, water limitations prevent any plant competition. Finishing is done with a pickaxe. The soils are supple and lively. The viognier vines are worked in the old-fashioned way, on "Echalas". The Winery is still being modified and built; Antoine, the son, has joined the team with plots in Côte-Rôtie. | Le Clos de la Bonnette was abandoned after the Second World War. First of all, it was necessary to clear the hillside of what was once - in ancient times - already a famous vineyard. It was no easy task... Breaking rocks, pulling out a forest, building and maintaining dry stone walls, terraces (or chaillées) to stabilize, planting and maintaining vines, all this while cultivating nearly 5 ha of organic market gardening... It takes passion, determination, and even more so when the choice of organic viticulture is made. Since this reconstruction, these lands have always been worked organically (ECOCERT certification) and therefore have never seen the slightest weedkiller. Isabelle Guiller, at the vinification, and Henri Montabonnet, mechanic, mason and "soil manager", can be proud of the work accomplished ! |
