We're telling you about their Winery
What a pleasure to meet people like Jacques and Agnès Carroget! And to have in our glasses, the divine nectars of the Pao!... Much more than a Winery, La Paonnerie is an institution. In the Côteaux d'Ancenis, of course, but also on a national level, as the wines of Jacques and Agnès are now attracting crowds. In organic farming since 1997, Winery has a little over 20 hectares at its disposal. On this part of the right bank of the Loire, between Brittany and Anjou, the wines of the Nantes region (melon), the wines of Ancenis (gamay, pineau) and the wines of Anjou (chenin, cabernet) are represented. And even very well represented thanks to the meticulous work of Jacques. Since his childhood, he has rubbed shoulders with grapes. From the age of 9 years old, he harvests and even if these periods were for him synonymous with celebration, he remembers hard times. |
But the passion remains intact and for him, winemaker is not just a job, it's a way of thinking, of seeing life. His philosophy clearly revolves around the earth, the soil and becomes over time a specialist and lover. Like his habit of putting a bit of oats in certain rows. The roots of the oats bring some nitrogen to the plant. He also sows clover, exactly for the same reasons. The musts will be richer in nitrogen and therefore of better quality. In the vat, the same topo, neither sulphur nor yeast. For his gamay for example, he harvests whole bunches of grapes. The vatting is done in semi-carbonic for 4 to 5 days. Giving pulp to the fruit is one of his priorities. Marie Carroget, their daughter, has joined Winery. The transition is smooth and family friendly but let's be sure that the philosophy remains the same! |
