We're talking to you about his Winery
Anchored in Calce since 2014, Raphael Baissas de Chastenet willingly opposes his way of working to the artistic practice of graffiti. There is something of the order of the suspended moment that will happen only once. To make wine is to compose with all the elements and to adapt to the situation. It is the result of a sensitivity towards the vine, just as a painter faces his white canvas with his brushes and his feelings. Raphael has always had this interest in the vine and wine. As a child, he helped his paternal grandfather in the cellar and pruning on the land of the Col de la Dona where he is settled today. Moments that gave him a taste for agricultural work. Without giving up the desire to make his own wine one day, he tries other professional experiences, elsewhere where he cultivates his need for freedom and develops his interest in art. Then one day, his father gave him the opportunity to take over vines planted thirty years ago. He left his job, which no longer suited him, and settled in Calce, his homeland perched 200 metres above sea level in Roussillon, where he followed the advice of Jean-Philippe Padié. |
Raphael first encountered difficulties in reclaiming the land of this wild and sloping terroir which had not been maintained, but through hard work, the first vintage was born in 2014. The grapes are picked by hand and elaborated without any chemical products, the grain is selected to get the best out of it. The wine is aged in vats, without blending or filtration. The yeasts are indigenous. Today Vandal-Wine / Nada has grown; new grape varieties and 7 hectares to bring to what they inspire him. His goal is to share a true concept of life: carpe diem. Raphaël, we follow you! |
