We're telling you about their Winery
The wines of this "young" Winery from the Côtes de Duras had been seducing us for several years. In 2015, it became obvious: let's work together! The Winery Mouthes Le Bihan has become in a few years, the spearhead, the locomotive (like others elsewhere) of an appellation too long forgotten, the Côtes de Duras. A little topo on the geography of the appellation? The Côtes de Duras is an old appellation dating back to 1937 which is, all in all, quite discreet. However, it benefits from very high quality terroirs. Located on the South-East part of Bergerac on about 2000 ha. Few wine growers against many farmers! Catherine and Jean Mary Le Bihan took a gamble, that of settling there in 1997 and finding plots of land, and/or buying up small quality estates here and there to reach a good twenty hectares. |
From their first vinification in 2000, the Le Bihan family chose the most natural method possible, favouring the quality of the grapes. The work in the vineyards has pushed them to replanting, sometimes to more than 5,000 vines/ha. This same desire to reveal the soils, their minerality and their complexity has also pushed them to drastically reduce the yields to go in a few years from 50hl/ha to an average of 25hl/ha...! Here, the soil and its identity prevails on Grape variety. The work in the vineyards and in the cellar is irreproachable and precise to accompany the raw material with the minimum possible intervention. Bravo and thank you for your trust and your beautiful wines, Catherine and Jean-Mary! |
