We're talking to you about his Winery
The Clos des Vignes du Maynes, in Cruzille in the Mâconnais, is today managed by Julien Guillot. His wines gain in width, depth, finesse and complexity with time. We are thinking more particularly of cuvees such as Aragonite (white) or Manganite (red) but also the cuvée Auguste (from pinot noir). To wait, there are fresher wines, more accessible in the first years like the Mâcon Cruzille in white, or the Cuvée 910 in red (a blend of gamay, pinot noir and chardonnay). Finally, the wine trade developed by Julien, such as this Mâcon Villages, also gives some really beautiful emotions. These wines also deserve to be presented in the range. This Winery has had a succession of illustrious owners, starting with the monks of Cluny Abbey (instead of 'maynes', read 'monks'). The monks registered the property as early as 910. Pierre, Julien's grandfather, who bought the vines in 1954, was one of the first winegrowers to claim to work organically and without inputs in the vinification process, a pioneer in terms of natural wine! | The Winery is in a magnificent vineyard of about 7 ha, composed of 27 parcels planted with the 3 historical grape varieties of the region: pinot noir, gamay and chardonnay for a third of each. This terroir (the monks were not mistaken) has very important geological features which give the wines a lot of complexity and minerality. For all these centuries, the vines that have lived there, in these lands, have never seen chemistry. It is both a Winery, a terroir but also a strong history. It is in this context that Julien Guillot took up this work in 1998 with passion and a very strong will, a lot of conviction and methodology. He continued in his own way and introduced Biodynamics as soon as he arrived. Julien knows each of the parcels by heart and can spend hours talking to you about them... Passion... |
