The wines of Winery Yvon Métras
Yvon Métras: an exceptional winemaker in BeaujolaisOur friend Yvon Métras has owned a very nice Winery in the Beaujolais since the end of the 80s. He is not a great talker, but what wines, what Beaujolais he offers us, my goodness! Faithful to the teachings of Jules Chauvet, Yvon, based in the pretty commune of Vauxrenard, carries out a chemical-free viticulture. He bases his work on ploughing, severe pruning, small yields and magnificent terroirs in order to offer us an exceptional natural Beaujolais wine. Let's mention "Grille midi", "La Madone", with a few hectares of very old vines (some of them planted in 1898) from which he sometimes makes the cuvée Ultime, which has undoubtedly made his reputation in large part. The choice of natural wineIn 1988, Yvon Métras made his first wines at the family's Winery (which has seen several generations of winemakers). He then quickly left the cooperative cellar to join the "band of disciples" of Jules Chauvet, whose leader is Marcel Lapierre. The work on his current 5 ha is identical to that of all the disciples.

Beaujolais without added sulphiteThe ripe grapes, obviously hand-picked, are vinified in whole bunches. Semi-carbonic maceration (old-fashioned) with no artificial additives, using only indigenous yeasts. AllYvon Métras ' wines are therefore without added sulphite. An old press takes over, very gently, to respect the grapes, the pulp and the juice. The rest is a bit mysterious, discreet and secret. A know-how acquired over time, of which we know nothing more. Even in difficult vintages, Yvon knows how to show tenacity and passion with very low yields. The sequel with Jules MétrasHe passed this passion on to his son Jules. Working alongside his father since 2014, Jules Métras gradually took his place at Winery, also developing his own vintages. Today, the torch has been officially passed: Jules has taken over his father's vineyards and vintages, and the Winery now Winery his name, Jules Métras. No need to worry about what comes next: Jules is in very good hands. The Métras style, standards, and spirit are very much alive, with the same pursuit of accuracy, precision, and emotion.
