We're talking to you about his Winery
At just over 40 years of age, Claus Preisinger has become one of the most prestigious standard bearers for the wines of Austria's Burgenland region with his many wines of healthy and vibrant profiles.
Claus Preisinger was born in 1980 and was involved in the wine business from an early age thanks to his father who owns 3 hectares in the Burgenland region. As a teenager, he helped his father to produce his wine. He then continued his training with Hans Nittnaus, a famous winemaker in the region, before taking over the family vineyards and creating Winery Claus Preisinger, with a first vintage in 2000. Its Winery is therefore located in the Burgenland appellation area, in the Neusiedlersee region. South-east of Vienna and a few kilometres from the border with Hungary. Certainly the hottest wine region in Austria (the thermometer often reaches 40° in summer). The Winery is currently made up of about 20 hectares spread over almost 70 plots. Eighty percent of the vineyard is planted with red varieties (Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, Sankt Laurent, Pinot noir, Merlot), the rest with white varieties (Grüner Vettliner, Weissburgunger (Pinot blanc), Chardonnay). The winery, with its very modern architecture and style, is above all very ergonomic; it is located in the town of Gols.

Inspired by the writings of Rüdolph Steiner, Claus has been working in Biodynamics since 2006. In the cellar, he works on instinct with little or no intervention: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, no filtration, no or very little added sulphite. As you can see, it's all about nature! Most of the cuvées are matured in Stockinger barrels and/or casks (an Austrian cooper renowned for his noble woods and the very low temperature toasting of his barrels). Claus Preisinger was also one of the first in the region to ferment his wines in Georgian amphorae. The whites from Winery all undergo skin fermentation, which takes varying lengths of time depending on the vintage. Claus also joined the "Pannobile" collective and produced his first wine under this name in 2004. The Pannobile is a movement initiated in 1994 by seven winegrowers from Gols, later joined by two others, including Claus. Their objective is to create a platform where each member, while remaining totally independent, communicates and shares ideas and experiences with a view to producing high quality wines that are representative of their terroir, thanks to a kind of mutual emulation.
We are very pleased to be able to offer you some of Claus's wines. |
