We're talking to you about his Winery
Alexandre Bain is a UFO on his land of Pouilly-Fumé. One of the few organic winegrowers on this famous appellation where the sauvignon is sublimated. Alexandre is not the son of winemaker but he has a passion for the vine from a very early age on the family farm. At the age of 18 he discovered the natural current in the Beaune wine school. He was immediately won over. "When I tasted these wines, it was enormous. Before, I didn't understand anything at the tasting, I tasted ten wines in a row and I couldn't see any difference. In fact, it wasn't me who was messing around, it was them with these things that were all made the same way with sulphites, yeast." After several years of travelling and internships, notably with Olivier Cousin, where he discovered the work of the vine with the horse, he created his Winery in 2007 on the Pouilly-Fumé appellation. A Winery initially of 5 ha that he pampers from the start by orienting himself towards Organic and Biodynamic agriculture with the help of his horse (Phenomenon), he uses all that nature can give him in order to take care of his land, his vines and the men who work them. | No yeast, no chaptalization, no filtration. Work with the lunar calendar. Like many others before it, it 'accompanies' its grape juice into wine. Alexandre now works on 11 ha and offers several vintages including: 'Pierre Précieuse' and 'La levée' which come from grapes grown on limestone soils (8 ha) with little or no arable land and high stoniness. This soil brings a lot of roundness, a very sunny side" says Mister Bain. But also the 'Mademoiselle M' cuvée, which comes from another type of limestone: the famous Kimmeridgian (marl with small oysters, 140 million years old). The soil is greasier and much more difficult to work. This specificity brings more structure, length and finesse to the wine. Ripe, rich and fat Sauvignons for which the minerality expresses itself with age. |
