We're talking to you about his Winery
Arianna Ochhipinti is based in southern Sicily where she skillfully produces red and white wines characterized by their finesse and freshness. The story begins at the dawn of her 16th birthday. Shy and dreamy Sicilian, Arianna follows her uncle winemaker Giusto to fairs and discovers her vocation by falling under the spell of the world of wine and its thousand pleasures. In spite of a few moments of doubt, quickly dispelled by her model uncle, she went to Milan to study enology at the end of high school. With her diploma in her pocket, the return to Sicily came naturally, as a ferocious attachment to her roots and in 2004 she bought 1 hectare in the south of the island near Vittoria, she was 21 years old at the time. Disturbed by certain rigid and interventionist speeches of Milanese professors, Arianna met Nicolas Joly (Coulée de Serrant, THE Mr Wine in Biodynamics) and Frank Cornelissen, and shaped her idea of a wine that will be made with respect for the soil, biodiversity and only uses indigenous yeasts in the winemaking process. Fighting but reasoned, she learns on the job by working her vines of Frappato and Nero d'Avola, and after a first vintage vinified at a friend's house, installs the equipment allowing her to ensure her own production between 2005 and 2006. |
One thing leading to another, Winery is growing; 8 ha are planted and converted to organic. We find the local red grape varieties but also Zibibbo and Albanello, two white grape varieties that Arianna tames wonderfully, bringing out the crunchiness and freshness. The years 2008 and 2009 saw the birth of the "SP68" cuvées, concocted from young vines and becoming best-sellers. Four years later, she built her new winery on the site of an ex-azienda with 6.5 hectares of organic vines. Since then, praise has been pouring in. It must be said that Arianna Occhipinti's wines fascinate the discerning tifosi by delivering Sicilian vintages of rare purity where freshness and finesse dominate, far from the uniformity of the "jajas-pas-terribles" of the area. Seeking to produce natural and lively wines that are always intense, harmonious and sensitive, Arianna Occhipinti creates bottles in her own image, natural, that stick to her experience... and we love it! |
