We're telling you about their Winery
Since the 1970s, Château Sainte-Anne has been able to work its vines and grapes without artifice. It is one of the pioneers in Bandol in what we call today the Natural Wines. The Château Sainte-Anne has been a family property for 5 generations, and was built in the 16th century by the Congregation of the Fathers of the Oratory who already cultivated vines and olive trees there. They built vaulted stone cellars which still exist today but have since been restructured to comply with the requirements of the Bandol A.O.C. (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée). Also, a modern cellar has been added to the old one, allowing to add modern methods to the ancestral ones in the wine making and in the vineyard management. Now managed by Françoise Dutheildela Rochère and her son Jean-Baptiste, château is located in the Bandol appellation, and this vineyard has always made use of its assets: a geological richness (the most arid limestones with veins of very pure white sand which allow a deep drainage of the soil). | The terroir benefits from a microclimate with very cool nights from the beginning of September which allows the mourvèdre to give a perfect maturity until mid-October. Finally, one must also count on the influence of the sea air (the Mediterranean is 2 km away as the crow flies). All these parameters constitute a real ecological niche still preserved where the expression of its terroir is concentrated. In the cellar, the grapes vinified into Red, Rosé and White express their true nature with care and respect. |
