We're talking to you about his Winery
Firmly determined to work according to natural principles in viticulture and winemaking, Lidewij Van Wilgen, who runs the lovely Winery 'Terre des Dames' in Murviel-les-Béziers, has worked hard to offer perfectly balanced, distinctive vintages with an excellent price-quality ratio. Established in 2002 not far from the Faugères and St-Chinian appellations, and coming from the world of advertising in the Netherlands, Lidewij had to establish itself as a woman, foreign and revolutionary. The 14 hectares of clay-limestone, flint and oyster fossils are perfectly curled up in terraces, well drained and strongly windy. Even the springs provide natural irrigation. | Only local grape varieties are represented: syrah, grenache, alicante and recently mourvèdre with plants from 25 to 90 years old. The rigorous work - zero insecticide since 2006 (certified organic since then), daily inspection of the vines, no synthetic fertilizers - results in an exceptional quality of grapes. The yield is low, up to 15 hl/ha for the alicante. Each Grape variety is vinified separately to produce wines that are easy to digest, with a strong and fresh character. A bit like Lidewij who enchants us with her personality, her good mood and her fragility. Today, she puts everything on her cuvée "La Diva" with a discreet breeding, a refined and tense wine, with an unbeatable quality-price ratio! |
