What is the history of Vignobles David?
VignoblesDavid is an emblematic winegrower Winery located in the Rhône Valley, in Sérignan-du-Comtat, between Orange and Mont Ventoux. Founded in the early 20th century, this family-run Winery has been passed down through the generations, remaining faithful to viticultural practices that respect nature and the terroir. Today, Frédéric David, a direct descendant of the founders, is at the helm of Winery. Since his takeover in 2007, Frédéric has instilled a new vision by integrating modern techniques while respecting ancestral viticultural traditions.
Since the 2000s, Winery has been committed to organic viticulture, marked by the refusal to use chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Frédéric David, a fervent advocate of agroecology, has also adopted biodynamic viticulture practices, further enhancing the authenticity of his wines. His commitment to respectful, sustainable agriculture is fully expressed in soil management, with practices such as non-labour, grassing the vines, and the use of natural compost.
This reasoned approach doesn't stop with the vines. Frédéric David has banned the use of sulfur in several of his cuvées, such as Canopée, which has become the standard-bearer for Winery. This no-sulfite-added wine is the fruit of a natural winemaking philosophy, in which human intervention is reduced to the strict minimum. The result is an expressive wine, reflecting the purity of the fruit and the complexity of the terroir. The history of Winery is thus marked by an ongoing dialogue between tradition and innovation, with a constant desire to preserve the natural balance and biodiversity.
Which grape varieties are used at Vignobles David?
Vignobles David cultivates a wide variety of traditional Rhone Valley grape varieties to create a diverse range of wines. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, making it an ideal terroir for growing robust red varieties and aromatic whites.
-
Grenache Noir: The flagship Grape variety of Winery, Grenache Noir, forms the basis of many of Vignobles David's red wines. Known for its ripe red fruit aromas and generous structure, it produces rich, fleshy wines. Combined with other grape varieties, it produces balanced, powerful and elegant wines.
-
Syrah: Syrah is another Grape variety emblematic of the region, bringing complex aromas of black fruits, pepper and violets. At Vignobles David, Syrah is used to create intense, spicy wines, often aged in oak to reinforce their tannic structure.
-
Cinsault: Often used in blends to bring finesse and lightness, Cinsault perfectly complements Grenache and Syrah, contributing to more delicate, aromatic wines. Grape variety is also present in some of the rosés produced by Winery.
-
Viognier and Roussanne: For white wines, Vignobles David grows Viognier and Roussanne, two typical Rhône Valley grape varieties. Viognier is appreciated for its floral and fruity aromas, while Roussanne adds richness and complexity to the white wines of Winery.
-
Carignan: This rustic and ancient Grape variety is also present in the vineyards. Frédéric David has taken advantage of this Grape variety to produce structured red wines with silky tannins and complex aromas of black fruits and spices.
The marriage of these Mediterranean grape varieties with sulfite-free viticulture that respects the ecosystem produces authentic, unique wines that faithfully reflect the terroir and artisanal know-how of the estate.
