How to choose the perfect red wine for a raclette?

What are the characteristics of red wines to choose for a raclette?

- Little or no tannin

- Good acidity (without loosening teeth)

- Fruit

- A few spices shouldn't hurt

Which regions are best for pairing red wine and raclette?

This type of wine can be found in the Loire (Cabernet Franc, Grolleau, Pineau d'Aunis), Jura (Trousseau, Poulsard, even Pinot noir), Beaujolais and Côtes du Forez (Gamay), Savoie (Mondeuse) and, why not, the Rhône if the winemaker is fruity and fresh.

Does the type of charcuterie affect the choice of red wine?

The type of meat served with the raclette can also have an influence: if it's well peppered and matured, Pineau d'Aunis and Mondeuse will come out on top. If it's less typical, Gamay and Pinot Noir will do their best.

At what temperature should I serve my red wine with raclette?

Whichever wine you choose, since it has little or no tannin, we recommend that you serve it at To be served at cool temperature (13-14°C). It will then have a profile of tension and freshness, preventing any attempt at destabilization on the part of the raclette.

What pitfalls to avoid when choosing a Red Wine for Raclette?

Many red wines go well with raclette. Just avoid wines that are too ripe, sunny, woody or tannic... Save them for your summer grills!
