| “A great wine can only be a natural wine!”; it was with this phrase in mind that the Genoux brothers of Château Mérande (or Winery ) adopted organic and biodynamic viticulture in 2009, earning Ecocert certification. Here, the vine is regarded as a living being connected to the cosmos. Once situated along the Roman road linking Vienne to Rome, Arbin is a land of wine. Château Mérande (or Winery ) spans 12 hectares, 7 of which are reserved for the region’s Grape variety , Mondeuse, which fully expresses the richness of the Arbin terroir. The remainder is planted with Roussanne, Altesse, Gamay, and Jacquère. Settled for generations in the heart of the Combe de Savoie, the Genoux family manages these terroirs—which are so delicate to work—with strength, courage, and principles that respect the environment. | All the work in the vineyard is carried out with the aim of preserving the surrounding natural environment in order to safeguard the biodiversity at the heart of the vines. Meticulous soil work, no weedkillers or pesticides are used so that the terroir expresses itself in its purest personality. All this work proves to be colossal when one discovers the difference in height of the slopes where the vines have taken root. But all these efforts are not without rewards as the wines express the identity of these great terroirs. In the cellar, an important sorting is carried out during the harvest in order to obtain perfectly ripe grapes. Vinification is then carried out with little intervention, using indigenous yeasts and without any inputs, in order to preserve the typicity of each terroir. |
