We're telling you about their Winery

In Fuissé, in the heart of the Mâconnais region in southern Burgundy, the Denogent family has been growing grapes since the early 20th century. At that time, Andrée Robert, née Denogent, owned 5 hectares. The Pouilly-Fuissé appellation did not yet exist, but she already sensed the potential of these terroirs.

In 1989, his son Jean-Jacques took over the Winery and renamed it Robert-Denogent, in honor of his ancestors. Together with his wife Anita, and following the advice of the late Marcel Lapierre and Jacques Néauport, he made the decision early on to adhere to the highest standards: meticulous soil management and low yields, around 22 hl/ha.

His sons Nicolas and Antoine Robert joined him in 2006 and 2012, respectively, and took over the reins in 2015. The two brothers have maintained the family’s generous and approachable spirit, while adding their own touch. They draw inspiration from their tastings at iconic wineries in Beaujolais, Jura, Savoie, and Burgundy. “If we’d wanted to make the same wine as our father, we wouldn’t have known how,” they joke.

Today, the estate Winery has 13 hectares that have been certified organic since 2016 and are farmed using biodynamic methods. They are divided into about thirty plots between the Mâconnais and Beaujolais regions, on soils composed of schist, limestone, clay, silt, or sandstone. This mosaic of terroirs yields wines with very distinct profiles, ranging from Aligoté to Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru.

In the vineyard, work is done by hand whenever possible, as is the harvest. In the cellar, there is no set formula: each plot is vinified separately—in barrels, demi-muids, large casks, or tanks, depending on its character—and then aged for at least two winters. The wines are bottled unfiltered, with little or no sulfur added, only when the brothers deem them ready.

The result? Straightforward, rich wines, built for aging, that have gained finesse without losing any of the roundness and body typical of the maison. Authentic, just like the family!
