All about the Winery Envinate

Driven by a desire to showcase the Spanish terroir as a whole, Winery Envinate offers pure and authentic wines. These single-vineyard wines reflect their terroir and vintage.

4 Spaniards in love with natural wines

Envinate (literally “make your own wine”) is, above all, a human story—the coming together of four individuals united by their love of wine: Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, José Martínez, and Laura Ramos.

The four friends met in 2005 while studying oenology at the Miguel Hernandez University in Alicante.

They first formed a group of consultants (in-house oenologists) before launching the “Envinate” project in 2008 upon completing their studies.

The aim is to highlight the Spanish terroir under an oceanic influence through plot-based vintages planted with indigenous grape varieties.

Each region has its own wines

They began by purchasing a few plots of Mencia vines in the Ribeira Sacra region of Galicia, where Alfonso is from. They then acquired additional plots of pre-phylloxera vines on the Spanish island of Tenerife (volcanic terroir), where Roberto is from. More recently, they have discovered vineyards in Castilla-La Mancha, in the limestone-soil region of Almansa. In each region where they operate, the wines are vinified on-site. In addition to their own vineyards, they work with local winemakers who share Winemaker philosophy: environmentally friendly farming practices based on native grape varieties.

Natural and healthy wines

At Envinate, no chemicals are used in the vineyards. And the grapes are harvested by hand. After being lightly crushed by foot, the grapes begin fermenting using native yeasts, and no pumping over is performed. Fermentation also takes place without temperature control. Once fermentation is complete, most of the wines are aged in old barrels, imparting subtle oxidative notes to the various cuvées. At Envinate, we use no new barrels or new wood—our goal is always to preserve the purity of the fruit!

Sulphites are only used during the bottling process, and only if really necessary.

Spanish wines at their best

We’ve personally fallen in love with these wines! The result is stunning (truly)! The wines are pure and crystal-clear, with a perfect balance of acidity, minerality, and fruitiness. Full of finesse and freshness, these wines also have depth and an interesting body. Envinate: great Spanish wines, heritage wines.
