Victory! The administrative court of Dijon has decided to give back the Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) Pouilly-Fumé to Alexandre Bain!
After a fierce legal battle, the winemaker "natural" Alexandre Bain will be able to take pride in putting the Pouilly-Fumé appellation on his labels. And we will be able to drink Pouilly-Fumé with satisfaction :-). Indeed, the Administrative Court of Dijon decided last week to reverse the decision taken in September 2015 by the INAO (National Institute of Origin and Quality) to classify Alexandre Bain's wines as Vin de France. A decision that was "disproportionate" at the time, since the Organisme d'Inspection des Vins du Centre considered that winemaker refused to submit to a compulsory control to benefit from the appellation of origin. A great victory for our comrade from Tracy-sur-Loire who is, let's remember, the only one winemaker out of the 156 members of the Pouilly area wine union to produce "natural" wines. "I hope to have opened a way, because another viticulture is possible. Why should we have to leave the appellation? It's the world upside down, because we carry the colours of Pouilly-Fumé high in France and in the world.he declared. He rightly considers "that it's time to open the door to reforming controls and recognising natural winemaking practices; this is a huge victory for all organic and natural wine producers who fight every day against an absurd and bureaucratic system!".
