We're talking to you about his Winery
Raphaël Bartucci is a rare bird, a true autodidact of wine. And organic wine. Since 1997, his Cerdon wines have been certified AB by Ecocert. His parents fled Calabria at the end of the 1950s to settle in Moselle. During the summer holidays, Raphaël Bartucci used to come regularly to the Bugey. A few years later, in 1981, after studying electro-mechanics, but above all with the desire to be a farmer, he bought a ruined maison in Mérignat. His current maison , his village since then. He decides to plant a few acres of vines for his personal consumption. He imagined wine as a noble product, fruit of nature and not of industry. He was not satisfied with what he was told about how to make it. So, he inquired, searched and through friends, met Pierre Overnoy and then Marcel Lapierre who confirmed to him that it was possible to work differently. |
His first vinification dates back to 1983 and since then, he has been planting a few ares regularly to reach today in 2011, 2.10 ha on 10 plots! Working during the day, he takes care of his vines on the WE and the long evenings until nightfall. He quickly made a name for himself in France and abroad, as far away as Japan, for his tenacity and the sincerity of his wines. In 1992, he devotes himself entirely to the production of Cerdon wines and becomes winemaker full time. Ploughing, leaf removal, small yield (around 60hl/ha in the best years), Raphaël does not seek to expand. His 2.10 ha are enough for him today. With one employee six months a year and about twenty pickers for a week. His son Pierre joined Winery in September 2017 after studying space management and environmental protection. Pierre is 26 years old (in 2021) and Raphaël is officially retired= the handover will take place in a few short years and everyone hopes that everything will be fine . According to Raphaël, the agreement with his son is good, so... To be continued. |
