With his structure Can Sumoi, Pepe Raventos offers us natural wines from the Penedès region, pure, sincere wines, representative of their terroir. Pepe is from the famous Raventos family. He represents the 21st generation! The eponymous Winery is renowned throughout the world for its sparkling wines. Pepe's grandfather was the founder of the CAVA appellation. Pepe has been working in the vineyard since he was a teenager. He joined the family's Winery " Raventos i Blanc " in 2001. Eager for knowledge, he also trained in Saint Emilion to learn how to vinify red wines. Having trained as an oenologist, Pepe acquired valuable experience in the production of terroir wines, notably with the late Didier Dagueneau (famous winemaker of Pouilly Fumé). He thus developed the family Winery with its working methods, in the vineyard and in the cellar, by emphasising the cohesion between animals, plants and people. He is also pushing Winery towards biodynamic agriculture. ![]() |
In the 2010s, he left to live with his wife in New York where he discovered a passion for natural wine. With this in mind and on his return to Europe, he became close to Pierre Overnoy. From this meeting, his inspiration for the elaboration of natural wines was born. On his return to the family Winery , Pepe is looking for a place to put his love of live wine into practice. This vision led him to Can Sumoi where he created his own structure to offer natural wines, representative of their terroir. Can Sumoi is a land that has been abandoned for some time, in the heart of the Penedès region. Situated at an altitude of 600 metres, Can Sumoi is a Winery consisting of more than 300 hectares of forest, about 20 hectares of vineyards and a large maison dating from 1645 and a winery at its centre. Here Pepe found what he was looking for, the perfect place to make his range of natural wines. The Winery is managed according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture, the vinifications are made with the least possible intervention (indigenous yeasts, no inputs). The wines offered are simply superb, with balanced profiles between tension and minerality. The sparkling wines offered are just magical, what finesse! Can Sumoi and Pepe Raventos, at the top!
