We're talking to you about his Winery
Settled in St Aubin de Luigné, in the heart of the Layon angevin, Adrien de Mello first travelled the world! Quebec (where he learnt how to make wine), South Africa, United States...he then returned to France where he worked for 4 years in the Rhone Valley in a biodynamic Winery . But Adrien wants to come back to the West, his native land, and he has the opportunity in 2015, both to settle in the magnificent vat room of the Château de la Genaiserie but also to take over the vines (3.5 ha) thanks to Thomas Carsin who proposed him this plot of land cultivated organically.
Its start is difficult because it suffers hail in December 2015 and then frost in 2016. Fortunately, solidarity will play a role at harvest time, since Philippe Delesvaux, whom Adrien has already approached for an optimized practice of biodynamics, will sell him a few grapes and allow him to be close to the quantities produced and required for the good financial balance of his Winery. But it was a close call, with no less than 80% of grapes missing!... |
Attentive practice of biodynamics, very limited use of sulphites at the setting and work in the vineyard with the horse. In addition to the willingness to offer authentic wines that are not devoid of originality, the young winemaker de la Genaiserie also relies on a solid experience - he says he prefers to make red wines rather than white ones - while admitting that he has a lot to discover with the wines of the region, especially the whites. Adrien de Mello is one of the most recent generation to settle in Anjou, but he already has a long and rich experience of winemaking in many estates. And in the Loire Valley, it is clear that we can rejoice to see such talents arriving who will shake up the domains that are a little too established and participate in bringing upwards these still too little-known Anjou wines. |
