The revival of the Penedès vineyardFor some years now, a wind of freshness and nature has been blowing through the vineyards of the Penedès region in Spanish Catalonia. We have already talked about it by presenting you the wines of Toni Carbó. It is another Winery, another winemaker that we present here. Winery Sicus (Eduard Pie), natural wines in South CataloniaThe Winery Sicus(Sicus Terrers Mediterranis) is located in the municipality of Bonastre (Penedès, South Catalonia). It is run by Eduard Pie. Coming from a family of farmers who carried the grapes to the cooperative, Eduard was very interested in wine. He trained himself in this sense in order to elaborate the wine himself, initially on a very small scale (personal consumption and for some family friends). It is only in 2009, that Eduard Pie harvests a vintage in its entirety and that will be the starting point of a more important production to reach currently a total of 10 to 15 thousand cols. |
His work is first of all that of the land, of the respect of the soil and of the autochthonous grape varieties of the Baix Pendes: xarel-lo, xarel-lo rojo, macabeo, monastrell and malvasía de Sitges. Here, we respect life, the environment, nature and therefore we do not use herbicides, insecticides,... The wine is the expression of the terroir and this terroir must remain free of any input. Wines in amphoraIn the natural winemaking process, Eduard Pie works mainly with clay amphorae placed underground in the vineyard. These amphorae are porous containers, allowing micro-oxygenation and preserving, above all, the natural aromas. The Winery Sicus is a project carried by all the energy and the particular care of this young winemaker Eduard Pie. We were very sensitive to the precision of the wines, to their finesse and to the freshness of the always aromatic wines. We hope you will enjoy these wines as much as we do. Nice tasting. |
