We're talking to you about his Winery
Grandson and son of winemaker corsicans on the land of Patrimonio, Antoine Arena first studied law in Nice before returning to Corsica in 1975. He finally developed a passion for the 3 hectares of vines of the family Winery which quickly became one of the leading estates on the island. The natural approach came to him as a reaction to the large agro-industrial groups in the chemical industry. Since 1980, with the help of his wife Marie and his two sons who now take over, Antoine Arena has never sought to spare himself in his efforts to reclaim the best terroirs of Patrimonio. Today, Winery covers 14 hectares. In 2005, again with his sons, they decided to conquer the Hauts de Carco, a magnificent part, well oriented but made up of enormous rocks. Enough to give up... After having crushed, pulled out, extracted these blocks, this parcel is planted with vermentino and bianco gentile on 1ha: determination, here is the word that sums up Antoine Aréna and his family. Antoine Arena does not give up when it comes to preserving the terroirs and the life of the soil: ploughing, no treatment, natural contributions of manure etc.... to work biodynamically on slopes of over 25°, where olive trees and scrub used to grow in the past. | He is a pioneer for this appellation, a driving force for many fellow winegrowers. Powerful but extremely fluid wines, some of them with a great minerality, which require 1 to 2 years of cellaring. Winery is divided into 3 zones: - Carco on 3ha (2ha vermentino and 1ha nieluccio), very hard limestone soils, east-west orientation. 4000 feet/ha- Grotta di sole on 3ha (1ha vermentino and 2ha nieluccio), calcareous and clayey soils, south orientation. 5000 feet/ha- Morta Maio on 1,6ha (nieluccio), north-south orientation. 5000 feet/ha plus some plots of land, one of which is Muscat. The future of Winery is assured by the two sons, Jean Baptiste, who returned to Winery in 2003 (after studying law) and is now in the vineyards and the main actor in the transition from "Bio" to "Biodynamics". Antoine Marie (27 years old) has been back at Winery since 2004 (studying Geography History) and is concerned with the work of the winery and the cellar. Antoine is not far away... |
