We're telling you about their Winery

It’s a small Winery (less than 2 hectares), located near Condrieu. The Clos de la Bonnette, situated on the Côte Bonnette (the valley of the same name), is a rich and protected ecosystem. Choosing to farm organically on steep slopes and small terraces requires adaptation. Unfortunately, using horses is not an option. Henri Montabonnet is the man for the job; he adapts mechanical tools such as a tracked vehicle to facilitate soil aeration. During the intense summer heat, water shortages prevent any weed growth. The finishing touches are done with a pickaxe. The soils are supple and alive. The Viognier vines are cultivated the old-fashioned way, on “echalas” (stake systems). The Winery still undergoing modifications and construction; Antoine, the son, has joined the team with plots in Côte-Rôtie. Le Clos de la Bonnette was abandoned after the Second World War. First of all, it was necessary to clear the hillside of what was once - in ancient times - already a famous vineyard. It was no easy task... Breaking rocks, pulling out a forest, building and maintaining dry stone walls, terraces (or chaillées) to stabilize, planting and maintaining vines, all this while cultivating nearly 5 ha of organic market gardening... It takes passion, determination, and even more so when the choice of organic viticulture is made. Since this reconstruction, these lands have always been worked organically (ECOCERT certification) and therefore have never seen the slightest weedkiller. Isabelle Guiller, at the vinification, and Henri Montabonnet, mechanic, mason and "soil manager", can be proud of the work accomplished !
