Thibault Ducroux is a son of winemaker in the Beaujolais And that’s where his passion comes from. He learned the basics of the trade alongside his father. However, he didn’t stop there and soon wanted to understand more about soils, wine, and nature. So he headed to St-Jean d’Arrières (69) to pursue a BTS in viticulture and oenology. Around the same time, he discovered the writings of Jules Chauvet (the father of “natural” oenology), which resonated with him and ultimately convinced him that there were other possible paths to take.
With his pilgrim's staff in hand, he sets off to meet Jean Claude Lapalu, Michel Guignier, Valentin Morel (Jura) and Isabelle and Bruno Perraud (Vauxrenard). Straight out of his BTS, Thibault Ducroux, leaves to work for Julien Sunier where he learns how to work the soil and the vines, all using organic methods, and then how to vinify "natural" wines. |
At the same time, Thibault Ducroux buys 1.25 ha in the Beaujolais appellation which he obviously cultivates organically (vines in conversion). His first wine "En roue Libre" is produced for the 2019 vintage. From 2020, 5 ha in fermage are worked on the appellations of Morgon and Fleurie. Thibault Ducroux seems to have a good head on his shoulders and our meeting was a good time to exchange and listen. We are happy to be able to participate in the launch of young winegrowers! |
