We're telling you about their Winery
| Winery since 1758, located in Piedmont in Canelli, 25 km south of Asti, Winery is now run by Alessandra Bera and her brother Gianluigi. After a long period of mixed farming and self-sufficiency, the Winery a full-fledged wine estate under Vittorio, the father of Alessandra and Gianluigi. He took over the operation in 1964. After briefly experimenting with the new industrial viticulture methods of the 1960s, Vittorio Bera returned to natural farming—to “organic,” so to speak (though that term wasn’t used back then). Gianluigi joined his father at Winery in 1982 after studying oenology in Alba, and was joined by his sister Alessandra in 1995. At that time, although the vines were tended as naturally as possible, the work in the cellar remained conventional. The Winery its winemaking methods after a chance visit from the “natural wine” generation of Beaujolais (Métras, Foillard, Thévenet, Lapierre…), and thus increasingly shifted toward natural wine, using indigenous yeasts and very little sulfur. |
Today, the “azienda agricola’s” vineyard covers nearly 12 hectares, half of which is adjacent to Winery. The rest is scattered within a 2-kilometer radius of the winery, with a wide variety of exposures. The vineyards have been certified organic since 2000. The landscape here is magnificent: green hills with the peaks of the Alps in the background, and the sea is not far away either (70 km). The soil consists largely of marl resting on a base of silt with some clay and sand. The harvest begins when the grapes are ripe (yes, incredible, isn’t it?!) and they are picked into 20-kg crates. In the winery, the red grapes are destemmed, unlike the white ones. If you want to (re)discover what a real Moscatto d'Asti or Barbera d'Asti is, you must do it with the wines of Winery Béra! Whether red or white, the organic wines offered are superbly mastered, you must try them, friends!
