The wines of Ferme de Bois Moisset

Ferme de Bois is a Winery dating back to the 18th century. Today, it comprises 40 hectares of farmland (excluding vineyards) and several hectares of vineyards located in the Gaillac wine region. But Bois Moisset is also represented by two individuals: Philippe Maffre and Sylvie Ledran. Long-time members of the “Confédération Paysanne,” they champion a different model of agriculture—one that is more in harmony with nature and respects both microbial life and people. When we listen to them, we truly feel that this is authentic—that they live in harmony with their environment and are clear-sighted. Here, there’s no monoculture—just what’s needed: wheat, cows, and wine! It’s true that it’s hard work, but the results speak for themselves; in fact, they produce their own bread and lentils, which they sell alongside their wine.

The Gaillac terroir

Let’s talk about the vineyard: located on the left bank of the Tarn, it consists of 15 hectares of low-yield vineyards on gentle slopes with loamy or gravelly soils (essentially an extension of the Bordeaux vineyards). The Winery the switch to organic farming in the 1990s, and the wines are produced without added sulfur.

Cultivation of local grape varieties

Philippe Maffre primarily grows Braucol (Fer Servadou from Aveyron), Duras, and Prunelard (two native grape varieties from the Tarn), as well as Syrah. Always open to new ideas and supported by his sons and his wife Sylvie, Philippe is constantly trying new things when crafting his wines. The result: natural red wines and natural white wines that are full-bodied, fresh, and easy to enjoy—all at affordable prices.
