Maury Grenat 2023 from La Petite Baigneuse by Philippe Wies.
Unlike traditional Maury wines—which are heavy and overly sweet, masking their flaws—Philippe Wies’s fortified wine is... magnificent.
Suave and lively, the sugar in no way detracts from the vinous identity of this cuvée. Plums and red fruits in syrup, bramble wood, sweet spices and acidity characterize this VDN. That sweet touch just on the finish reminds us that this is a Maury, and our brains say a p.... de MAURY!!!!
No sulfites added, 5% alcohol added (mutage).
The overused foie gras and parsley pasta will do, but try it with duck à l'orange or beef tomaté au piment de Cayenne...
