We're talking to you about his Winery

It’s been about ten years now since Bruno Debon (a former photographer and graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure de Photographie in Arles) made a 180-degree turn to, initially, “grow organic apples.” He planted 2,500 apple trees (six varieties) starting in 2010. He sells his entire production—including fruit, juice, dried apples, and apple compotes—through the AMAP network and to several fine restaurants in the region. With 2 hectares of vineyards already on the Winery, continuing this same work organically made perfect sense. His encounters and friendships with Cyril Fhal, Jean-Christophe Comor, and others have gradually led him toward greater freedom. In 2018, Bruno Debon’s work has focused on even greater respect for his environment, and beyond organic certification, he is “undoubtedly seeking humanity, a sense of sharing, and an even more honest path.” 2018 was a year “marked by a deep desire to discover these more vibrant wines, these fine juices that whet the appetite.” “A journey where nature is an ally, where humans play an ever-greater role—as farmers, as humble artists—and where encounters with winemakers and other enthusiasts lead me down a path that is freer and, no doubt, more demanding”—Bruno Debon himself :-)

The Winery Terres des Nus, located in Châteaudouble in the Var, is barely 2 ha of vines and 1 ha of apple orchard in front of the maison at the bottom of a limestone canyon. Further down, in the plain, there are three small plots of vines (50 year old Syrah, 20 year old Grenache, Vermentino (or called Rolle) and Roussane) and freshly planted thyme. Above Châteaudouble at an altitude of 600m, a plot ready to welcome Savagnin and then there is "Lo mas d'en garrigue" a beautiful old 70 year old macabeu vine on a schist terroir, facing north-east, which rises to a ridge above the village of Montner in the eastern Pyrenees. Vines found by Cyril Fhal (Clos Rouge-Gorge) a friend of Bruno Debon. These old vines are worked, pruned and harvested for Bruno and Cyril, and often vinified at Cyril's place.

Everything is worked in organic (Ecocert certified) and all the wines are without inputs.
