A UFO in no man's land ?? And yet... Claude Courtois, known as the Loup Blanc in the small world of 'natural' wines, has been offering for more than twenty years totally atypical wines, made with the greatest care, in his own way and without artifice. Lost' in the Centre-Loire, near Blois, in a corner not very well known for the quality of its wines (poor soils not very well adapted to agriculture of any kind), it has succeeded in a tour de force: to turn its 13 hectares into a garden where gamay, cabernet, côt, sauvignon, pineau give the best of themselves. The rigorous philosophy has something to do with it: organic farming, without chemical intervention to give living soil to the flourishing microbial life, natural environment of the vines - woods, flower fields, grassing -, hand-picking and yields -20 to 22hl/hc- controlled.
But above all, Claude Courtois is a character! A peasant winemaker surrounded by his animals and always accompanied by his dog. Fascinating, passionate, playful, communicative, respectful of his interlocutor, he takes you into a world of virtues, ideals and righteousness. Just like his wines, marked by tension, mineral or acid, frankness and complexity. Today, his son, Etienne Courtois, accompanies him and vinifies all the cuvées except Racines. The new generation is on the march, Claude is proud of it and will finally be able to take care of nothing but... his garden!
