Bottles at l'Amère: a Breton cider house

In a corner of Brittany (Finistère), a sort of small paradise between two ports, that of Doelan and Pouldu, Marc Frocrain and Isabelle Richard settled in the commune of Clohars Carnoët. They created there in 2015 the cider farm or Micro-cider factory"Des Bouteilles Ā l'Āmère"

It is 12ha of high and low stem orchards of several plots located between land and sea (Clohars Carnoet and Quimperlé).
With farming roots in other regions, Berry for Isabelle and Yonne (Burgundy, the Chablis region) for Marc, the land has always had meaning for them. Isabelle first worked in the world of "public hospitals" and Marc was in the computer industry (software).
Brittany, the "Côte Rocheuse" of Finistère, has always attracted them. Their origins, their curiosity and the notion of terroir led them to land in"la pomme" following a love affair with a local story.

Based on :

  • the local transmission of Patrick Gourlay (cider grower for over 15 years),
  • on studies at the Lycée agricole Le Robillard, in Normandy, in order to complement practice with theory
  • a one-year apprenticeship

Real Breton and organic ciders!

The farm"Des Bouteilles Ā l'Āmère" is committed to rediscovering what has made the special reputation and typicality of the ciders of the Quimperlé and Clohars Carnoët area.

Isabelle Richard & Marc Frocrain have two main interests: the expression of the terroir (soil, climate, variety, tillage) and food and cider pairings.

Little by little their reputation has been built on their fine extra dry ciders, with a balance of acidity and bitterness, which Isabelle and Marc like to drink with land and sea cuisine.

Natural ciders without treatment

The work is what we look for and appreciate in our winemaker(ne)s as well as in our cider growers. The apples are picked, when ripe, by hand by a team of 6 to 7 people in a "harvest" atmosphere. The soils are worked without any treatment or synthetic chemical weedkillers. Fermentations are carried out exclusively with local yeasts. All the wines contain less than 20mg/L of sulphites, and some of them are made with the extra brut. no added sulphitesSome of the wines are made with a high percentage of sulphites, notably the extra brut.

We sincerely thank Isabelle and Marc for their trust. We look forward to sharing this work with our lovers of healthy and living products. Natural, healthy ciders that will surprise you!

Yec'hed mat! (To your health!)

* Isabelle:"Research into so-called 'extra brut' ciders, with a predominantly bitter and acidic taste and a very low level of residual sugar, is very important to us, as it opens up a whole host of possibilities in terms of pairing with our beautiful land and sea cuisine, but also to revive tastes and ways of consuming cider that have existed for a long time: less sugar, less bubbles, a fair amount of bitterness, a winey side, in other words!"
