We're telling you about their Winery
| Les Bertrand are superb biodynamic Beaujolais (Fleurie and Morgon); we have clearly succumbed to the charms of the wines at Winery. But it's also a beautiful family story. The Winery was created in the 1950s by Louis Bertrand who moved to the Beaujolais region to trade wines in Paris and Lyon. In the 1960s, Winery took off again at Château in Grand Pré (Fleurie). Grand Pré is also a climate in Fleurie and Morgon. The succession is done in family (1992) and so Annick and Guy Bertrand (Yann's parents) continue the work and even buy some adjoining vines at château. At the end of the 1990s and beginning of 2000, work in the vineyards was increasingly carried out in harmony with nature: less chemical weed killers, little or no exogenous yeast, more chaptalisation: a real awareness with the aim of respecting the environment. Yann is not initially predestined to become winemaker but rather oriented towards trade. A job that makes him move around a lot and also allows him to discover and taste wines from all over the world. | Then he finds himself working in wine bars, in wine shops... Easy then to realize that he's still the son of winemaker ! Back in his region, he starts to learn a lot from his parents' generation, Jean Foillard, Yvon Métras and the whole bunch of "sons of" (hear the children of the winegrowers' circle raised in the Lapierre & Chauvet spirit). Yann Bertrand thus returns to Winery and is passionate about soil studies and will thus naturally, with the help of his parents, steer Winery (7.5 ha) towards organic farming (full certification in 2013). Yann takes a few vines, 1.5 ha, for him with a biodynamic approach. From his vines, he elaborates two new cuvées at Winery : the Chaos cuvée in Fleurie and the Bio Dynamite cuvée in Morgon. Very quickly his wines, by word of mouth, are a "sensation". It's up to you to discover them! |
